Udhvarthanam is a deep-tissue Ayurvedic massage using herbal powders and churnams. There are two types of Udhvarthanam:
- Snigdha (Oily): In this, the medicated powders are mixed with specific oils or ghee, made into a paste and then rubbed against the body in an upward direction.
- Rooksha (Dry): It involves application of the dry powders, without adding any oil.
This vigorous herbal powder massage is one of the most sought-after treatments in Ayurveda, due to the goodness it offers to the body.
