Shiro-Greev Abhyangam

Shiro-greev abhyangam is a traditional ayurvedic seated massage of the head, neck and shoulders using medicated oils. The head (Shira) is described as the best among all organs (Uttamanga) since it is the seat of the senses and the controlling station for the body’s life-giving functions (Prana). Charaka Samhita describes the practice of shiro abhyanga (head massage) as a vital part of the daily routine (Dinacharya). This treatment nourishes the five senses by focusing on the ‘marma points’, many of which are located around the head. These points, when gently massaged have a hugely calming and balancing effect throughout the body and nervous system. The oils used for this treatment are specifically chosen according to the individual’s dominant dosha constitution type.

By targeting the Crown Chakra and harmonizing the doshas within the body, the practice of Shiro-abhyangam nurtures the body, mind, and spirit.
